The Outlier Inn is a retreat recording and mixing facility where time, space and inspiration are the most valuable pieces of gear. Located on a farm in the Catskill Mountains, 90 miles outside of NYC, the Inn provides lodging so that artists have 24 hour access to the studios and can focus on their music undisturbed while residing footsteps away. Why make your record in the hectic city when you can make it in the beautiful country?
There are three studios available for rent on a short or long-term basis. Studio A features a Wes Lachot designed control room equipped with a Neve VR72 console and ATC 110 main monitors, a naturally lit 750 square foot live room, and 5 isolation booths. Studio B features a 24 channel Sound Workshop 1280b console, a wide array of vintage analog synthesizers and a large isolation booth. Studio C is a 30-foot geodesic dome live recording space which can also be used as a reverb chamber.
Studios A, B and D are interconnected via tie lines and a LAN network, and share a backline and mic locker depending on availability.
Our Studios.
Studio A.
Studio A features an open 750 sq. ft. live room with a 14 ft. ceiling, skylights and windows looking onto green pasture where sheep, goats and alpaca graze. There are 5 ISO booths all wired with ample XLR, Cat6, Instrument and Speaker pass-throughs as well as Leslie pass- throughs.
Designed by The Wes Lachot Design Group (Chapel Hill, NC), the control room features an automated 72 channel Neve VR console, which came from Capitol Studio C (LA) by way of Electric Lady Studios (NYC). Studios A and B are interconnected via tie lines and a LAN network, and share a backline and mic locker depending on availability.
Studio B.
Studio B features a 200 sq. ft. control room and an 50 sq. ft. isolation booth. Designed by Nicholas Emmet, the control room is built around a modified 24 channel Sound Workshop 1280b console. Studio B hosts a collection of vintage analog synthesizers and is perfect for writing, producing, editing, ADR, and multi-tracking.
Studios A and B are interconnected via tie lines and a LAN network, and share a backline and mic locker depending on availability.
Studio D(ome).
Our 30 foot geodesic dome is connected to both Studio A and Studio B via a Dante network and is used as a tracking and live performance space as well as a reverb chamber.
Songwriting Retreats and Recording Workshops.
Our property and studios are ideal for hosting songwriting and studio workshops and retreats. With ample on-site accommodations for large and small groups. Past partners have included the Songwriting Academy of the UK, Atrium Artists, and Audio Sin Fronteras. The Studio A control room and tracking room make perfect hands-on classrooms while the Studio A isolation booths as well as Studio B can be transformed into individual writing and production spaces.
